Save those banana peels and make tea
This tea is tastier than pills or black tea, and it doesn’t need added sugar. Banana peel tea contains 5-HT and 5-HTP,[1][2] the latter being a mild sleep-inducing agent, literally a narcotic, and not a controlled substance.
Edit Ingredients
- Organic bananas
Edit Steps
-
As you eat the bananas, peel off the labels. Throw the peels into your freezer.
-
You can also make this tea without freezing and drying the peels, just put the fresh peel in a cup and skip to the final step. This tea is sweeter as a green (unfrozen) tea.
-
-
When you have enough peels to fill the pan, let them thaw in your pan for an hour or two. They should turn black.
-
Put the peels in the oven at pasteurization temperature. This is approximately 65ºC or 150ºF. Bake until they are dry (this should take less than two hours).
-
Pre-process the banana peels. Do this by cracking and shredding them by hand a little bit.
-
Pulverize about one peel at a time in the blender. Add up to four peels before emptying the blender into a dry tea jar.
-
Make the banana peel tea. Pour hot water over one heaping tablespoon of the blended peel. This one heaping teaspoon is about as strong as a black tea bag. Adjust according to personal preference. Enjoy before bedtime, to help send you into a good night’s sleep.
Edit Warnings
- Be sure to use organic bananas to prevent chemical pesticide consumption.
